Pickle Night
Friday 7th November 2025

What is Pickle Night?

Every November, sailors and veterans celebrate Pickle Night – the lighter, more humorous counterpart to Trafalgar Dinner Night. It marks the voyage of HMS Pickle, the little schooner that carried the news of Nelson’s victory (and death) at Trafalgar back to Britain in 1805.

Unlike the formal Trafalgar dinner, Pickle Night is all about laughter, sea shanties, and Jack Tar humour – a true sailor’s party in honour of the fleet. tickets available from Shipmat secretary Andrew “Max” Wall at £15pp. Only 40 available so get yours ASAP

What’s on the Menu at Pickle Night?

Pickle Night dinners may be lighter in tone than the grand Trafalgar Night, but the food still has a strong nod to Nelson’s Navy. A typical menu features hearty sailor’s fare – think pea & ham soup, salt beef or a good beef stew, and even ship’s biscuits for tradition’s sake. For pudding, it’s usually spotted dick or plum duff with custard, favourites in Nelson’s day.

And of course, no Pickle Night would be complete without the most important course of all – a generous tot of rum! 🍽️🥃⚓️

Yorkshire Belle
Gin Cruise

On Saturday 26th July, around 30 members of the Bridlington Branch RNA joined a Gin & Rum Cruise for a night to remember. With over 50 gins and rums to choose from, the atmosphere was lively and full of laughter.

Our “Vicars & Tarts” fancy dress theme surprised and delighted fellow passengers (and earned a few strange looks on the way to the boat!). A fantastic evening of fun, friendship, and good spirits was had by all.
